Germany and the G7

During Germany's chair of the G7, the CIH Commissioners and Secretariat were invited to apply Global Health 2035 findings to identify opportunities for Germany and the G7 within their priority areas: neglected tropical diseases, pandemics, and antimicrobial resistance.

We prioritized four cross-cutting areas that require greater support from Germany and the G7:

  • Invest in the discovery and development of new health tools (e.g. medicines, vaccines, diagnostics);
  • Support policy and implementation research (including the science of scaling up health tools);
  • Strengthen national health systems, including their ability to tackle cross-border threats (e.g. through disease surveillance); and
  • Foster global coordination mechanisms.

These priorities are outlined in the following materials:

In the final declaration of the 2015 G7 Summit in Schloss Elmau, leaders called for health systems strengthening, drawing lessons from Ebola. They also endorsed the WHO Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance and highlighted the role of R&D in fighting neglected tropical diseases.
